1. Align the Bolt Place the main body of the lock on the moving part of the window (the sash). Extend the bolt to the "locked" position to see exactly where it will sit against the window frame.
2. Mark the Holes Using a pencil, mark the screw hole positions for the main body. Then, hold the keeper (the small strike plate that the bolt slides into) against the frame and mark its holes as well.
3. Pre-Drill Pilot Holes Use a small drill bit to make shallow pilot holes on your pencil marks.
Note: For zinc alloy hardware on UPVC or wooden windows, pilot holes are essential to ensure the screws go in straight and don't put too much pressure on the zinc base.
4. Secure the Main Body Align the lock body over your pilot holes and drive the screws in. Start with the screws closest to the bolt for the best stability.
5. Install the Keeper Align the keeper plate on the frame. Ensure the bolt slides in and out of the keeper smoothly without catching. Once aligned, screw it into place.
6. Test the Tension Slide the bolt several times. It should feel firm but smooth. If it’s too tight, slightly loosen the screws on the keeper and adjust its position by a millimeter.
1.Daily Operation
To Lock: Slide the lever or knob toward the frame until the bolt is fully engaged in the "keeper" (the strike plate). You will usually feel a firm "click"—this is the internal ball-bearing tensioner holding the bolt in place so it doesn't slide open due to window vibrations or wind.
To Unlock: Simply slide the bolt back in the opposite direction until it is clear of the frame. The bolt will stay retracted, allowing you to open the window freely.
2.Best Practices for Use
Secondary Security: Always use this lock in addition to your window's primary handle. For maximum security, engage the bolt whenever the window is closed for long periods or at night.
Ventilation Gap: If you have installed a second "keeper" further down the frame, you can lock the bolt into that position to leave the window slightly cracked for fresh air while still keeping it physically secured against being opened from the outside.
Safety Check: Ensure the bolt is fully retracted before attempting to swing or slide the window open to avoid scratching your window frame or bending the bolt.
3.Maintenance
Cleaning: Since this is often made of zinc alloy or stainless steel, simply wipe it with a dry or slightly damp cloth to remove dust.
Smooth Motion: If the bolt feels "gritty" over time, apply a small amount of silicone-based lubricant or graphite powder to the sliding channel. Avoid heavy oils, as they can attract dust and clog the mechanism.
1. High-Precision Design & Detail
Intricate Casting: Unlike stainless steel, which is difficult to shape, zinc alloy can be "die-cast" into highly precise and decorative shapes. This allows Degol to create window locks with smoother edges, ergonomic grips, and a more "finished" architectural look.
Superior Finishes: Zinc alloy is the best base material for plating. Degol can offer this lock in a wide variety of premium finishes—such as Antique Brass, Polished Chrome, or Matte Black—that look identical to much more expensive solid brass hardware.
2. Exceptional Cost-Effectiveness
Budget-Friendly Quality: Zinc alloy provides a solid, heavy-duty feel similar to brass but at a fraction of the cost. It is the ideal choice for projects where you need to secure multiple windows without compromising on the professional "metal" feel that plastic locks lack.
High Strength: Despite the lower price point, zinc alloy is remarkably strong—often exceeding the shear strength of carbon steels—making it highly resistant to brute-force tampering or "jimmying" of the window.
3. Natural Corrosion Resistance
Rust-Free Performance: Zinc alloy naturally creates a protective barrier that resists moisture and air. Degol's window locks are typically treated with an additional anti-oxidation coating, ensuring they remain smooth and functional even in humid indoor environments like kitchens or bathrooms.
4. Safety & Reliability
Solid Physical Barrier: As a surface-mounted bolt, it creates a visible and physical deterrent. Burglars are less likely to attempt entry when they see a heavy-duty metal bolt reinforced against the frame.
Child Safety: Because it is easy to install at any height, it is frequently used as a child safety lock to prevent toddlers from opening windows too far, while still allowing for secure ventilation.
