Lock?

  • Lubricate the doorknob lock to fix problems like a sticking key or a hard-turning knob. Spray some lube into the key hole, if applicable, through the application straw. This will make the key insert easier and also make the tumbler turn freely.

Spray lubrication through the application straw at the point where the handle shank goes into the door. Do this on both sides. This will free up the handle and allow it to turn freely.

  • Loosen, realign and tighten the screws, with a screwdriver, if the doorknob lock latch does not contact the striker plate correctly. In many cases the screws become loose and the doorknob settles. This places pressure on the latch so that it will open or close stiffly. Spray lube on the locking mechanism and the latch before reinserting the screws and tightening them up.

  • Realign the striker plate if the latch does not enter the plate hole. When a building settles, the door will go off kilter with the door frame. Most striker plates are adjustable both up and down or side to side when the screws holding it in place are loosened. But the latch hole in the frame will need to be enlarged to compensate. Adjust the striker plate so the latch fits inside again, then use a utility knife to cut through the wood and enlarge the hole. Cut the wood out and use a screwdriver to pry the bits and pieces away. Lubricate the latch and striker plate when finished.
