1. What are the differences between butterfly hinges and ordinary hinges?

Appearance: The blades of butterfly hinges have decorative curves or carvings, and are usually used for exposed installation. Ordinary hinges (flat hinges) are simple rectangles, usually with slots hidden.

Function: Butterfly hinges are more often used for lightweight doors or furniture (such as cabinets, jewelry boxes, screens), emphasizing visual aesthetics.

2. Does it need to be "slotted" for installation? (The core question)

Usually no: Most butterfly hinges belong to non-mortise hinges (without slots). You just need to fix it directly with screws on the surface of the door frame and door panel.

Advantages: This is very friendly for DIY beginners, as it doesn't require the use of woodworking chisels and the installation speed is fast.

3. Can butterfly hinges support multiple doors?

Load-bearing limit: The load-bearing capacity of butterfly hinges is usually weaker than that of industrial-grade flat hinges of the same size.

Application range: They are most suitable for indoor lightweight wooden doors, cabinet doors, and folding screens. If it's a solid and heavy entrance door, it is not recommended to use butterfly hinges, unless it is a specially reinforced thickened type.

4. What are "half butterflies" and "full butterflies"?

Full butterfly: Both blades are in the shape of wings, completely symmetrical.

Half butterfly: One is a rectangle (installed on the inner side of the door frame), and the other is a butterfly shape (installed on the door surface), balancing concealment and aesthetics.

5. Will butterfly hinges produce "black powder"?

Reason: If there is no ball bearing (ball bearing) at the pivot point, the metal will directly rub and produce fine wear powder.

Suggestion: When purchasing, check if there is a middle ring (bearing) at the pivot point. Hinges with bearings have a quieter and smoother operation and are less likely to produce black powder.
