How to Install Glass Door Hinge ?

Hinged glass doors commonly are found on entertainment centers, cabinets and even in showers. A common style of hinge for this type of door is called an overlay-style hinge. One side of the hinge is designed to fit the glass in a U-shaped bracket, and the other side is designed to mount into a non-glass surface such as a cabinet casing or side wall. Select the type of hinge based on the size and location of the glass door. Particular attention should be given to the weight of the door so that the hinge can support it correctly.

1

Slide the U-shaped portion of the overlay hinge over the glass door. Align the hinge side with the side of the glass and with the glass even along the bottom of the U-shape.

2

Screw the attachment screws through the side of the U-shaped portion to connect firmly with the glass. Some models also use silicone adhesive and hidden attachment screws to improve the finished appearance. Follow the specific directions of the manufacturer of your hinge set.

3

Install additional hinges in this manner along the side of the door. For small doors, two hinges are common, one at the top and one at the bottom. For larger doors, hinges are spaced every two to three feet.

4

Position the door in the opening and unfold the hinge to the casement or side wall. Keeping the door level and in the correct alignment, screw the second part of the overlay hinge into the casement or wall using the attachment fasteners appropriate to the installation.
