Wherever you have an open door that is stopped by a wall, you will need to install a wall doorstop. Otherwise, the doorknob will make a hole when it hits the wall. Follow the steps below to install a doorstop.

Pencil

Stud Finder

Doorstop

Step 1 – Choose your Preferred Doorstop

There are several types of doorstops designed to cushion the impact of a door that slams into it. One kind is a shaft that is spring-loaded and mounts on the door; another is a door-mounted, sold shaft; and a third is rubber stop that is mounted on the baseboard or wall. Choose the type that will work best for you.

Step 2 – Mark the Impact Point

Carefully close the door against the wall, then mark the place where the doorknob comes in contact with the wall. If there is a wall stud behind this spot screw your doorstop into the wall at this point.

Step 3 – Attach the Doorstop

The end of your doorstop that attaches to the baseboard will be threaded and will have a sharp point. If you don't have a wall stud to screw your doorstop into, screw it into the baseboard at a place where the blunt end will come in contact with the door when it closes.
